Youth Art Month Display at Portage County Public Library

Youth Art Month makes March one of the best months in the world. If you didn't catch my school wide display you are missing out.... just look at this beauty! I'm so proud!

I'm even more proud of the awesome work my students did on their projects! It was so hard selecting work to be displayed for YAM at the Portage County Public Library! Congratulations my wonderful artists!

Our district office made these beautiful certificates for all our students who had work on display!

Art Show Opening!

For our district K-12 Art Show, each school in the district chooses 20-30 pieces to mount and display in the district office. The work stays up for a few months and there is an opening night for families to come view the work and celebrate their child's artist achievement (with punch and cookies)! Because the art teachers are not the ones actually hosting or putting on the event, so we are not required to attend...Seems nuts right!? The teachers that choose not to go, say they don't go because it is a night for the students, not the teachers. However, because I am only in my three buildings limited time with students, many parents don't have a face to the name of their child's favorite teacher (hehe) so I choose to go to try to become more involved. I also love seeing the pride in my students showing off their work to their parents. ALSO, it gives me a huge, very needed at this time of the year, ego boost from all the compliments. Come on, you all love getting them too at art shows!

I sported my awesome Cassie Stephens hair clip that I was gifted at NAEA, got many compliments on that alone...Thanks Cassie!

I already posted pictures of some of the work from when I first hung it, but here is the full walls for a little refresher!

Are your art shows anything like ours?
I would love to do an arts night next year at one of my buildings to start, think it is a good idea or too much work?

Spring Art Show

Not even two months after our Youth Art Month show and another art show appeared! Two months may seem like a lot, but when you are on a 6 day rotation, doing projects that take 3+ classes, panic mode sets in trying to find work for another show! This show takes place in the district office and the art stays up from the end of April through the summer (fall show went up in November and came down when these went up). All the schools, K-12, in the district participate and art lines the walls of the office building! Families get invited to an opening in May to come view the work and you wouldn't believe the amount of people that show up, it is pretty amazing and exciting to be a part of!

Congrats to all of my amazingly talented kiddos who were selected!

YAM!

For those of you who don't know...YAM is Youth Art Month (which is nationally celebrated!!!) Here is a link to the National Art Education Association website for more info about this awesome month! Stevens Point and other schools in Portage County work together with the Portage County Public Library to display work throughout the children's department. Somehow, I lucked out and got all 3 of my buildings next to each other which made hanging REALLY easy (I also had the help of a certain awesome 1st grade teacher). Congrats to my kiddos whose work got chosen for such an important show!
