NAEA Make & Takes and My Virtual Fashion Show from Crayola

SO MUCH COLOR!
Thanks to Blick, Faber-Castell, Sargent Art, Michael's, Smart-Fab, and Roylco for all these fun make and takes at NAEA to try products and projects!

And Crayola for introducing me to this mind blowing program! My Virtual Fashion Show!

First you design your outfit with any material on the templates, photograph them in the app, customize your model, then BAM! Check out the screenshots from mine! The results are so good I would actually consider using it in my classroom and they will be coming out with males and car design!

Above is my paper version (NAEA inspired of course!), I used markers on everything and a crayon to get texture on the jeans, drumroll please for the digital results...

She actually walks up and down a runway and spins too!

Might have to buy the product for me just to play with :)

NAEA Top 10!

The top ten things I took away from NAEA
10. Be rich in content and rich in control. Answer the whys and capture your students attention and hold it!
9. Art Educators are not support we are part of the team and showing and making connections to Common Core establishes that.
8.  A new meaning of creativity: Creativity unlocks thinking and influences future thought! WOAH! Thats awesome. (If anyone knows where this is from let me know so I can give credit where credit is due, another person in a session quoted it during discussion!)
7. When applying Common Core skills to a lesson we can't assume students know how to transfer what we are teaching them to reading and writing skills. Tell them!
6. Every lesson/project provides an opportunity to include writing. One sentence or a page long story. Writing is writing. And writing is good!
5. Don't be afraid to do complex issues with younger grades. Give them a chance. They can probably talk about it and understand it and have some really great thoughts and ideas about the issues!
4. When you start observational drawing lessons and skills in early grades, they gain confidence early on about their drawing ability. Don't be afraid they can't do it. They can!
3. BE BRAVE. (One presenter does clay on the first day, little too brave for me!)
2. Art Educators SEE the visual world our job is to INTERPRET that information to students.
1. DBAE is gone. Things are changing. Common Core & 21st Century learning provides Art Educators an opportunity to be FULLY relevant in our buildings by integrating those standards.

Now let's see if I stay true and inspired by those! That's the true test!

And a little "thought" inspired iPad Art from the flight home...

NAEA Adventures Part 2!

A few more sessions, exhibit hall, adventures, and more delicious food was had winding up the NAEA Convention in San Diego.

Spent some time in the Crayola section in the Exhibit hall because Crayola is the BEST.

Went back to the hotel to change before we left for Balboa and it became obvious again that Annette regularly represents the gray scale and the color wheel for me. Opposites attract applies to friends too!

Balboa Park!

COLORS!

Rose Gardens

How great is this! Flower named after Chihuly!

After Balboa we ended the Night with this deicious dinner in Little Italy right near our hotel!

What a fantastic trip! I'll be posting the top things I learned/experienced for the sessions and exhibit hall in my next post!

NAEA Adventures!

It is so amazing to be here in sunny SanDeigo, California with all of these INSPIRING and INCREDIBLE Art Educators for National Art Education Association Conference. I'm learning so much and also having a great time as I get to share these days with one of my best friends from college who is a middle school Art Teacher.

Here is a recap in pictures of my time so far! With a full day to go!

Matching Shirts Day 1. Yes. We are those people. These babies came from TeeSpring and not sure if you can still get them :(

Adventures in the Exhibit Hall brought us to this Mr Brush fun :) Suprisingly enough, more people were not taking advantage of this guy!

Finished up the day in Seaport Village for dinner (with a beautiful view) and  Buskerfest (street performer fest). Wish I had a picture of the fire breather and sword swallower but I did catch one of the guy that went inside a giant balloon!

Day 2 Matching Shirts! Keep Calm and Teach Art brought to you by the Art of Ed Apparel!

Speaking of...At the Art of Ed booth!

Me totally fan girl-ing about Cassie Stephens! (She is an AMAZING blogger and fashionista!)

More Exhibit Hall fun visiting the Micheals Booth, this project has totally inspired me to make some of my own personal work with stamps and Inktense pencils! Stay tuned for that!

Finished up the day with Coronado. Incredible town across from the San Deigo Bay. Had to take a ferry  and then took a tandem bike. Yes you read that correctly. We took the bike a few miles across the town to one of the most incredible beaches I have seen. We couldn't resist going in the water so we wore our swimsuit bottoms and kept our shirts and cardigans on because it wasn't quite warm enough. The funny looks were so worth it and the picture of me jumping sums up my emotions at that moment perfectly.

Day 3 Matching Color Wheel Shirts!

Stay tuned for the rest of Day 3 adventures!
