Thank you Heather over at Art Intertwine for the nomination! For those of you not familiar the Liebster Award is a blogging award for blogs that are up and coming and have potential for more amazingness then they already have! Here are my answers to the 10 questions she posed from the person that nominated her and my nominations!
1. Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog when I realized how much I was using other blogs for inspiration and motivation and wanted to provide that for others. I also wanted a way to share with people in my life what I was doing each day. And for the less informed to say "Look, I'm not just finger painting! Art is about so much more!" This is mostly directed toward the car salesman that said that to me. WORD FOR WORD in total seriousness.... "So you finger paint all day?"
2. What excites you about being an art educator?
Fostering a love of art/creativity in kiddos and watching them grow up! When I first started college I was torn between regular Elementary Ed or Art Ed, what turned me was realizing that I get to see these kiddos grow up for a good portion of their childhood lives and have amazing relationships with them that other classroom teachers sometimes lose when students leave them at the end of the year...
3. What do you talk about on your blog?
I mostly stick to my lessons/projects/activities on my blog. I don't dabble too much in my personal life because on other blogs I follow that isn't what I'm looking for, and usually pass over those posts. If my personal life is relevant to art education I do share, like going to the NAEA conventions or seeing my picture places from the conventions!
4. Why do you think connecting with other bloggers is important?
I mostly get all of my motivation and inspiration from other bloggers. Yes, indirectly from Pinterest sometimes but all of the Pins usually link back to a blog! And collaboration on ideas has always been how I do my best work in and outside of teaching.
5. Have you met any other bloggers in person?
At the NAEA convention I had a massive fan-girl moment when I met Cassie Stephens. (Seriously I want to be a kid in her class!) And I'm pretty sure I freaked out Melinda when I noticed her in from of me during a session. I also hugged a few others at the Art of Ed booth when they had a meet and greet but Cassie was the only one I spent time chatting with. Also attended Mr. E's blogging session!
6. Where do you think your blog will be in 2 years?
Hopefully still active! I have moments when I don't blog for a week or two but always jump back in full force. If I am still active I hope I end up at the meet and greet with bloggers via The Art of Ed at NAEA Conventions :)
7. What do you do best? (In reference to Art Education)
I really pride myself on the ability to connect with my students. I'm still young enough that I like a lot of the same stuff as my 6th graders and try to talk with younger ones as much as possible about what is "cool" that way I can try to incorporate those things into their projects. They also think I am awesome for this which is a plus!
8. How much time do you devote to your blog?
It depends, I ideally would like to blog twice a week for an hour. This doesn't happen often. When I get backed up I binge blog and spend an entire afternoon on a weekend. This sounds like a New Years resolution coming on....
9. How do you create your posts?
I always start with taking pictures of student work when they get hung and have a list of projects/activities/stuff I need/want to blog about. I break down into days what I taught and try to attach all the videos and books I use because those are sometimes the hardest resources to find. I always end with at least 10 or so examples of the project...
10. What wishes do you have for your readers?
That I inspire them just as much as they inspire me. Even if they just get ONE idea from me in an entire school year I will be bounding with joy!
I only have 3 nominations because most of the blogs I follow are wildly popular already! Ladies, answer the same questions and do your best to nominate others!
Her blog was one of the first that made me REALLY want to start my own. I'm pretty sure I freaked her out when I was behind her at an NAEA session and recognized her and got excited... I actually partially modeled the way I wrote my posts after her! Melinda even designed my blog header for me!
Annette is one of my dearest friends that I met in the Art Education program in college and inspires me every day with the work she does with her students! She also is in a unique niche because she teaches theater too!
Lauren shares wonderful projects and how well dressed art teachers can be! I wanna know how she doesn't get messy in those outfits!
